Your Views: "schools should promote this site and so should local councils"

All Families With Children Can Benefit

by SoftwareGuru

Many Software4Students Ireland customers have stated online that "schools should promote this site and so should the local councils".

Within a local community, parents have a voice that will be heard much louder and clearer than any company's marketing manager, even if S4S was originally established to help disadvantaged schools.

In May of 2009, we blogged how Mothers Driving Social Network Growth was changing the social media landscape. This growth now means there are more parents than ever communicating online.

The opportunity is there today to inform your local community, from where to buy maths software to the best way to recycle your empty bottles and waste.

The most frequent comment we receive these days is "Every Uni/School should be promoting this site" which is great to hear from delighted customers.

Software4Students already provide free promotional packs for teachers and IT departments at schools, colleges, and universities.

In addition, you can download Software4Students posters and flyers to print off to help spread the word.

Talking To Your Local Council

Ireland's local councils are beginning to display some type of social media presence such as Twitter.

For example, Cavan County Council regularly post news, events and jobs through their twitter profile. They appear to be clued up in terms of communicating online.

Surprisingly, the rebel county have yet to get going which has allowed critics to make their feelings heard over on the Not Quite Cork County Council twitter profile.

The easiest way to discover whether your local council has a twitter account is to type into Bing/Google:

twitter [your area] county council

There is a good chance this will bring up your local council's social media URL. Alternatively, you could go to their main website and email them directly.

Putting up a Software4Students poster where your local community group meets will help spread the word to other parents and guardians. They no longer have to pay high street, full retail prices for the latest software such as Windows 7 upgrade or Microsoft Office.

In these tougher economic times, to borrow the tagline from a well-known supermarket chain: every little helps.

Grandparents can also take advantage of our cheap software deals and enjoy finding bargains on behalf of their grandchildren. You would be surprised at how many grandparents are getting to grips with shopping online and using the likes of MSN and Skype for video calls.

It certainly saves on the phone bill.
Help Families Save Money

Even as I prepare this article, more feedback appears on Facebook which echoes our theme.

Pete Williams: Like most other parents / students, I cannot believe that this facility is not made more "visible" by local authorities and schools. I will post a link on my wall and let the school know of this facility as well !

Perhaps schools and local councils are still catching up when it comes to being web savvy.

Thankfully there have been plenty of trustworthy websites who have highlighted the work that Software4Students Ireland does and how it can benefit families.

This includes mentions and links from:

Microsoft.com/Ireland
SiliconRepublic.com
Sunday Business Post

Digital Media Galway
Institute of Technology Sligo
NUI Galway
University College Cork
Kilkenny Education Center
University College Cork
University College Dublin
University of Limerick
Letterkenny Institute of Technology

and many, many more.

It remains to be seen whether local county councils will get involved in helping raise awareness to local families that money can be saved by using Software4Students.

If parents or students have any luck with their local councils in this regard, please let us know either through Facebook, Twitter or by email.

We look forward to hearing how you get on.
