Websites you can't live without in 2009

Which websites do you visit daily?

Happy New Year! From everyone at Software4Students we hope you had a great Christmas.

In preparing this blog post, it occurred to me that it would be worth discussing what websites we look at daily and how the need for value will shape our online behaviour in 2009.

As a country we are experiencing the first global downturn of the digital age. Thankfully we are not the punchline of the financial joke yet that has been described on RTE news:

"What's the difference between Iceland and Ireland? One letter and about 6 months."

So far, banana republic jabs aside, Ireland is actively looking towards solutions to deal with this crisis and we all have a roll to play in it.

Your favourite websites

Managing Your Time And Money.

As described here, Microsoft have revamped Windows Live to offer us more free online tools. These handy services can be used alongside your daily web routine.

It's important that we go online to both inform our purchasing decisions and to look for the best value available.

That philosophy is at the core of what Software4Students is about. Irish shoppers who are looking for official software at cheap prices are reaping the benefits and enjoying huge savings.

Whether it's online banking or comparing utility bills with offers from rival companies, price watching should be incorporated into our daily web routine this year.

For example, existing Eircom home customers can opt-in to one of their new bundle offers for telephone and broadband services and save up to 40% on their previous bills!

The Final Countdown.

The following is a list of 10 sites that I browse regularly. Although fairly obvious choices, be careful with Popurls.com - your whole day could get lost in that site!

1. Software4Students.ie
- with official software at bargain prices, always worth keeping an eye on. The Expression Studio 2 package alone is arguably the bargain of the century.

2. Hotmail.com
- the new faster user interface and folder options makes Windows Live Hotmail much easier to use.

3. Facebook.com
- one of the most popular social networking sites around, still as incredibly addictive as ever. Relationships are now breaking up through Facebook...what's next, making your marriage proposal online?

4. Popurls.com
- featuring the top ten stories, articles or clips from the net's most buzzing sites, this site is really a series of live bookmarks which has its finger firmly on the pulse.

5. MySpace.com
- as general social networking goes elsewhere, music enthusiasts continue to thrive within the revamped MySpace Music scene.

6. Boards.ie
- Ireland's favourite place for a bit of messageboard banter continues to grow and improve. Saunter on!

7. Computerandvideogames.com
- while it's hard to choose just one games site, I tend to keep returning to CVG due to the in-depth daily updates. Xbox.com gets an honourable mention.

8. Youtube.com
- Yet to reach it's 5th birthday, the net's leading video site is set to launch full length feature films for viewing in 2009. Exciting times ahead.

9. TV.com
- no matter what channel you watch them on, all U.S. TV programs can be found here with episode guides, latest gossip and all the news you could wish for. Just don't get me started on Heroes, OK?

10. SiliconRepublic.com
- Irish tech and new media site Silicon Republic never misses a trick when it comes to latest developments in Ireland. Miss it at your peril.
