Hyperlink Your Life With Microsoft Tag On Your Mobile

Bypass Search Engines With Tags

by SoftwareGuru

It may sound like a Fresher's Week initiative for students but it could be the future of connecting online marketing with our favourite activities and interests.

Microsoft Tag creates colorful and unique tags which are displayed in the real world and when captured via your mobile camera, deliver custom content to your mobile phone.

By connecting real life with the digital world it gives you instant access to to information, websites, videos, reviews, and more.

The Microsoft Tag website sums up the potential of this new barcode technology with the quote:

"
Whether it's Golf Digest demonstrating the perfect swing, Fearless Records connecting fans to new music and info about their favorite bands, Avatar showcasing its movie trailer, or a Tag on your morning box of Wheaties – Tag is increasingly making the world around us clickable."

U
sing this type of technology, we would no longer need to rely solely on search engines to hunt for relevant information via mobiles.

The photographed tag on our mobile can open the exact content we want instantly.

Fun Ways To Connect

In some ways it represents a new kind of bar code, designed specifically to be scanned by a mobile phone.

You can print, stick, or display Tags almost anywhere.

When you scan it with your phone, it automatically opens a webpage, dials a phone number, or takes some other action on the phone.

Simply scan a Tag anywhere you see it - on advertisements, signage, magazine articles, retail shelving, product packages, and storefronts - and gain access to websites, videos, reviews, contact information, social networks, discounts, promotions and more!

You just have to download the free Tag Reader on your web enabled camera phone and you can start scanning Tags to interact with the world around you in new ways.

Could this become another must-have application alongside Facebook on your mobile phone?
Phone Compatibility

Microsoft Tag Reader works on Windows Mobile, iPhone, Symbian, Blackberry, Android and J2ME phones.

If you want to know whether your handset model is compatible with Microsoft Tag check out the supported devices list.

UK mobile owners can sign up for free now but Irish users will have to wait a little longer for their service to launch.

Currently there are six countries involved including Canada, Italy, Netherlands, Turkey, UK and USA.

However, the beta phase has now ended so it is likely that Microsoft Tag will be expanded into many more territories.

This is exactly the type of next-gen techology that industries such as the music industry should embrace to get more fans interacting with artists and exclusive online content for mobiles.

Perhaps students will see it a Fresher's Week later this year.
