Challenging times ahead for parents and students with Budget 2008
A Tough Budget? It's not
exactly Quantum Physics.
The well-known phrase "it's not rocket
science" wouldn't make much sense if you worked for NASA. Obviously
they needed a different phrase for describing situations.
Similarly, Irish taxpayers may need to invent their own phrase to
describe next week's national "Budget 2008" which is more
likely to be Tarantino-esque in it's bloodletting - not forgetting
whatever other bad news the politicians try to sneak out the same day
while the country is still digesting
budget impact.
Just be glad expletive-prone Newcastle interim manager
Joe Kinnear isn't the Minister for Finance.
I'm fairly sure RTE couldn't carry his description of
Ireland's wounded Celtic Tiger live on air.
The question remains whether students and parents (ie. taxpayers) can
weather this perfect storm.

The Challenges Ahead
Looking to the future, while not
underestimating the economic challenges that lie ahead, there are still real
positives for Irish students and families to embrace.
More rural and Gaeltacht areas of the country are now connecting to high
speed internet access which has indeed flattened the world and made it
smaller, bringing us closer together.
Rising prices have made Irish shoppers even more acutely aware of the
need for bargains, whether it's buying
school books
or officially licensed discount

The truth is that when it comes to managing your finances, your work
life, your social life or even your inbox, finding a balance and staying
organised can be difficult. Especially in these days of 'time
compression'.
As we try therefore to balance our own lives, the overlooked tool that
is Microsoft Outlook is well worth revisiting.

Information Overload?
People who use several email accounts or handwritten
to-do lists endure a love/hate relationship with all types of
information in an attempt to stay organised.
Thankfully, managing your own finances and time becomes easier when you
stop looking at Outlook 2007 as merely an email program and
realise it can fulfil the role as your very own personal assistant.
You can timetable a day, week or month using Microsoft Outlook's
calendar. Schedule reminders for bills, meetings, lectures - anything!
Finally you can take control over your time and money.
All of your contacts and information can be transferred easily from
Outlook on your PC to other mobile devices such as laptops and mobile
phones so you won't forget or miss a thing.
Of course students need a little more help than most and for them we
recommend
OneNote: the Swiss Army Knife of note taking.
No matter what Budget 2008 holds in store, now is the time to
consider how you can get the most out of your daily schedule.
