Beware The Power Of Twitter
Awareness Online
by
SoftwareGuru
Monday 20th April 2009
Blink these days and you'll miss something.
Just look at last week.
Twitter users created an online
uproar over
Amazon's sales-rank fiasco that happened over Easter
weekend, and Scottish singer Susan Boyle was last week's
most watched clip on YouTube.
Power appears to have swung back towards the
online customer, the voter and the unheard voices that now
dominate the Twittersphere.
This shouldn't come as a surprise. Motivating public opinion
online played a large role in Barack Obama's campaign success.
Yet these three recent events still prove how underestimated the
power of the online voice truly is and what it can achieve in a
remarkably short period of time.
In an era where we don't trust advertising, television or even
most politicians, we turn to those who we respect and admire the
most to help us along the way
- our friends.
A year or two ago, a handful of bloggers might have written a
few articles on the above happenings.
Today, a simple tag in Twitter such as #amazonfail can
launch a million tongues talking negatively about your brand,
company, product or service.

Student Agenda in Ireland
Online awareness of discounts has been of tremendous benefit to
students in Ireland.
Likewise, parents and guardians of school children as well as
older
students are discovering that big savings are available simply by
asking their friends for advice on where to look.
In 2009, it's no surprise that a message service such as Twitter
can have such an immediate impact on consumer knowledge and
behaviour.
For a sample of how quickly irate people can make themselves
heard online try searching Twitter for #amazonfail or
Google for “amazon rank”.
For bargains generally, there are many places online
that will tell you where to find a bargain or last minute
money saving offer.
Of course, once people have developed the habit of using one
online store for all their purchasing, it can be
a hard habit to break even if there are cheaper prices
elsewhere.
As one customer, Adam Burton, has commented on our service on
the Software4Student
Facebook profile: "a life saver, this should be made more known to students".
